![]() You open the folder containing your downloaded installers for DRM Free games you had purchased from GOG. And also of course nothing runs because the servers that your games connect to no longer exist, having long since been dismantled for scrap and salvage. This laptop is your only companion in these dark days, along with the generator that should keep the battery charged for a while at least. There is no internet, not since the attacks on the data centers and major fiber optic trunks at the beginning of the Great War. You huddle inside your makeshift bunker with a stash of canned goods and your laptop. Probably not going to be getting back to everyone on this, but I do see people's points, and while I may not agree with all of them, I just hope that in the long run, Epic can prove themselves to be legitimate competition with platforms like steam and make an overall good impression on the PC-gaming platform by using the profits their service will garner to create a better service over time. I'm asking because I've been hyped to all hell for the outer worlds for some time now, and it's the first game coming out on their store that I'm seriously interested in, so I want to know if it's actually worth boycotting that game for the greater good. If anybody can shine some light on this for me I'd highly appreciate it. Is there some sort of shady business practice going on? Are they not paying the games developers their fair share of the revenue of the games being released in their store? Is it their online servers, or their customer support? Or do people just not like it because it's not steam? I've been using other launchers like the blizzard launcher and the origin client for games for years now and I've never had a problem with either of those, why now are people so upset and angry with the epic launcher? People seem to be OK with companies like microsoft and sony creating entire consoles that you have to purchase just to play their exclusive games (not to mention, pay for their online service if you want to play on them there), so why are people upset that a certain publisher would want to release games exclusively on their store, even when the client is free to download and the games are the same price / run the same while playing it through their launcher? I understand that the epic store has less features than steam, in regards to player profiles, community forums and groups, and has a considerably underdeveloped UI, but ultimately, at the end of the day, so long as I can pay for a game at a reasonably fair price, and have a fair amount of that money go back to the developers, and be able to click-and-play my game as easily as I could with the steam client, I don't see what the big deal is. I assume that I'm just ignorant on the topic, so I'd like some explanation as to why games appearing on this platform is a bad thing. I've seen a lot of fuss over games going exclusive on the Epic store, and I'm not sure what all of the fuss is about. r/CoOpGaming - A community for co-op gamingĮDIT 2: I posted a follow-up to this post here explaining what you guys helped me figure out about all of this. r/xboxone - Xbox-specific subreddit for general Xbox news and discussion r/playstation, /r/PS4 & /r/PS5 - PlayStation-specific subreddits for general PlayStation news and discussion r/pcgaming - PC gaming-specific subreddit for general PC gaming news, discussion and gaming tech support r/nintendo - Nintendo-specific subreddit for general Nintendo news and discussion r/shouldibuythisgame - Find out what's worth getting. r/gamingsuggestions - Go here to help you find your next game to play ![]() r/gaming4gamers - Discussion, bar the Hivemind Top-level comments must be at least 100 characters in length.Accounts must be at least one month old.External Links must follow these guidelines No topics that belong in other subreddits ![]() This subreddit shouldn't be used for advice of any kind.
